Milestone for Nic

Nic, my middle child who will be 10 years old in 2 months.  Looking at him, you would not guess he was born 9 lbs. 9 oz and 22 inches long.  He has always been tall for his age.  He never crawled and went straight to walking at 8 1/2 months old.

Today we celebrated a milestone in his life.  You see, Nic has been in speech for almost the last 8 years.  When he was 2 years old, Nic had developmental delays and speech delay.  We had someone come into our home 2 days a week to work with him on his developmental delays and I took him to Evansville 2 days a week to meet with a speech therapist.  When he was 3, he got speech and help with his development through the preschool.  He continued to receive his speech therapy through school for 2 1/2 years of preschool and then elementary school, 3 days a week they pulled him out of class for 40 minutes.  This always put him behind in his regular classes.  When he finished 3rd grade this past year, his speech teacher told me that if he kept up with his progress over the summer, he would be able to discontinue speech therapy.  This was his first full week back to school in the 4th grade and I ran into his speech teacher today, who says that she is removing him from speech, because she feels he is ready for it.   CONGRATULATIONS NIC....we are proud of you for all your hard work.  It has been a long road, but you made it.
