Our basement has always been used for storage, but with our family of 5 in a 3 bedroom house, we are running out of room. Our basement is dry and has no leaks for a 1956 house. We gave the kids a corner room down there with their stuff like a tv and their video games. But since we seem to have kids over all the time, we have decided to clean it up and give them 3/4 of the basement. The basement layout is an open floor plan with the chimney, central heating/cooling unit and water heater in the middle of the room.
So far today we cleaned for about 3 hours and ended up with 5 bags of trash and 3 bags to donate. We still have a long way to go. The other 1/4 of the basement will be storage, and our laundry room. There is also a room in the corner that use to be the coal room, and is now Jason's workshop, as we call it.
I have started collecting/buying things for the kids area and we are going with a tropical theme and using red and black school colors also. I cannot wait to complete this project. I will post pictures when we are done.
